Part-time BS at Richfield
I loved working at the Richfield Threseree (old-time machine show) in the Fall the new blacksmith shop on the historical centers grounds. Friends from my UMBA group would recommend that I go there and fill in some of the gaps on the coal forge. People like Kathy, Gary, Mike, and Kurt helped me to start slow and still be present to the public. Coal forging is an elegant way of blacksmithing which really speaks to the core of the art. Fire of us would fire up and work the hot blasts for hours at a time. Folks walking by want to share in your enthusiasm and might spend 20 minutes just watching you hammer, twist and shape metal. I've had kids run off to tell their friends we were handing out horseshoe rings if you get back there in time. Two, five hour days back to back were enough for me and I am now one of the part-time smiths at the shop. I live twenty minutes down the road - call me anytime that I am home.
