Old Falls Forge

09/19/2020

It has been a while since is was able to spend time blogging about my Blacksmith adventures. In that time, Jeff, Pat and the gang of Old Falls Village continue to "forge" ahead with their blacksmith shop on the grounds of OFV. Jeff, Pat and I have been meeting for three nights a week this summer in order to work in the forge using both propane and coal. They bought an acetylene welding kit, which is beginning to add another dimension to their work pieces.

Next the seminal shift of the summer happened, we are now officially named Old Falls Forge to distinguish us from the grounds of the Village itself. This identity shift is a big thing for then it can move us into a viable direction to establish other things. For one thing, we now have an email address: Oldfallsforge@gmail.com so drop us a line and we'd love to hear from you. Then we bought up all the domain names for OFF (Old Falls Forge) so that we can create a website for the new company. We needed this  in order to start sell some of the blacksmith goods that we continue to hammer out . Made sense to us at the time and will be a real boon in the future of OFF.

BTW, did I mention, that  OFF now  has or soon will  have a trade mark  finish on most of it major products. I invented  a 4 step, "secret process" which no one on Etsy currently sells under. You will be able to  buy an OFF item from our shop with a unique finish and know exactly where it came from. During the summer time, we sold a fair amount of product at the Civil War and WWII encampments. Men and woman reenactors actually came up to us in order to forge items for their costumes or in order to use our blacksmithing tools  to fix an item. We even handed out business card to get the name  out the the OFF has come to town.

Then the other Big Thing happened, we cleaned the shop  and got organized. With the purchase  of a 5'x8' locking cabinet, we are now  able to  lock up our most prized possessions.  Finally, I designed a work flow sheet  in order to track what items we have and at  what stage of  productions they are at. I also Excelled a sheet for signing in, emergency contacts numbers, and a volunteer waiver form for those occasional shop  helpers. This will be helpful down the road when we start teaching classes. Also in my spare time between jobs, laid off for the summer, I used AutoCad 2021 to lay out a preliminary sketch of the 30'x50' future blacksmith shop. Needless to say, I have not been idle with my time off,  but put thing to good use for the future development of Old Falls Forge.
