Mobile Blacksmith Shop
In the back of my mind, I've always wanted to do mobile blacksmithing. It takes is a little time, money, and ambition. I love to do demonstration of the blacksmithing craft even if in very small and simple ways. It is an art worth passing onto the world at large. That is why I held my nose and took the big leap into a deep pond.
I purchased a 5'x8' trailer and am ready to go. Wait a minute, I don't even have a hitch on my SUV nor do I own mobile gear to fit into the trailer. Little by little all these things started falling into place. I headed back to my mentor, Gary and set up a 100# Peterbuilt Anvil on a laminated stump. Together we not only designed the attachment but also a way to attach a small post vise into the hardy hole. The old rivet forge fit just right into the back of my trailer. Then I went onto Amazon to order an 8'x8' tent with wheels= who knows how far I will have to move my equipment. My hand cart died, and the new one will move over #500 lbs - will see about that.
The word must be getting out for my phone began to "ring off the wall" so to speak. This month alone I am off to blacksmith at a Renaissance Faire, Blacksmith Faire, Threseree, and Fall Farm Fest. A little later in the winter, I am invited to an artist fest and the Chamber of Commerce want me to attend a few Farmers Market in the village. I better get started on some projects to demo for the 6-8 hr days. My wife, Linda has been a big support of my craft and I could not have done it without her.
Here are some pics of my mobile unit as things progress:
